How to file a claim for auto hail damage on your vehicle (car, truck, and SUV)?

Since weather can be unpredictable and cause a lot of damage. It is important that vehicle owners understand how to properly file for auto hail damage on their vehicles.

It is key to look through your insurance papers to understand (or remember) the type of coverage you have and the extent of coverage. For instance, many of our customers have comprehensive coverage, which also takes care of interior damage to the vehicles. Most insurers don’t pay for damage if you have liability-only coverage. Liability-only coverage protects you if you cause harm to others while using the vehicle. Since hail storm damage is considered an “act of nature”, it is only covered under comprehensive coverage.

Regardless, if your insurance policy covers hail damage, file a claim as soon as possible.

It is encouraged to have comprehensive coverage before your local hail season because some companies may deter policy purchasers from taking car insurance that covers hail damage if it is just before the start of hail season.

An important thing to understand when you file a claim is your deductible.

Like any standard insurance claim, covering hail damage also has deductibles. The amount is set at the time of purchase of your car, truck, or SUV insurance. However, zero deductible is also allowed for an additional cost to be paid during the policy’s acquisition. But sometimes, the car repair costs may exceed this value.

Auto hail damage repair costs vary depending upon the extent and severity of the damage. It is possible that a vehicle can be totaled. Even though sometimes the hail damage repairs can be extensive for some types of damage, we recommend not to ignore it. This is because the vehicle itself can decrease in value.

Oftentimes even minor hail damage repairs can start around $2000.00. If it hails on your car again, there is a chance the cost of damage could result in a total loss.

Thinking about your premiums?

Your premiums will not increase if you file a claim. Damage from hail storms and other natural catastrophes fall under comprehensive coverage, so it’s a no-fault claim.  What will happen however is that everyone in the affected area of the damage will most likely see a slight increase in their policy whether you file a claim or not. This will not be due to you directly filing a claim.

Don’t wait and start the process to file a claim for auto hail damage on your vehicle today!
